Cannibal the Musical
This is quite possibly one of the funniest and overlooked movies ever. It is so fabulous I can hardly put words to why, but I’ll tell you a bit about it and why it’s fabulous.
First off it’s the first movie made by Trey Parker and Matt Stone – the creators of South Park. Some film maker’s first attempts are simply bizzare or bad (with the notable exception of Clerks [Kevin Smith], and the not as notable follower of the rule Forbidden Zone [Danny Elfman as a composer]), but I really think it’s some of their finest work. From what I understand, they were still in school in Colorado (yes, they really lived there) when they made this film. I believe a lot of the actors they use are actually their friends and were used in their later films (most notably Dian Bachar who showed up later in Orgazmo and Baseketball; and Masao Maki who is the Indian tribe leader and shows up as a sushi chef in Orgazmo). It has terrible special effects that are so bad they can almost be construed as comedically bad. It seems like they did it on purpose instead just being really poor.
Some people think that the South Park movie and Team America were Trey’s first musicals, but obviously that isn’t true. I think Trey is really the brains behind most of their stuff but I could be wrong. I love the songs though…highly inventive. Trey Parker’s band is responsible for that. The snowman song is my favorite.
Also the commentary on the DVD is legendary. Some people talk about the commentarys on their other movies as being funny, but this one is by far the best…definately worth owning (and also because you won’t see it anywhere else). You may have to order it online, but most major site carry it…its so worth it.
By far one of the funniest movies you’ll see. Just try to ignore the fake blood (I wouldn’t term it as gross…in fact the grossest part is in the first 5 minutes).
