I don’t like musicals…
I’ve been explaining the same damned thing for years now and I’m tired of defending my position on this subject. Musicals annoy me. These productions are meant for the stage, but far too often some film director will come along and take one to the big screen in hopes of a nice payout. I’m sure they get their money’s worth, but come on… Stage productions should stay on the stage. Period.
Are there any exceptions to my opinion on this? Sure, but the few musicals I do appreciate were not written for stage to begin with either. One of the most brilliant musicals (and just a great film in general) would be Cannibal! The Musical. It’s absolutely absurd, but brilliant at the same time. There’s a few others as well, but I’m not writing to explain which ones I like as the point I’m making is completely the opposite.
I also despise a good number of people who have taken their musical obsession too far. I don’t care if you think Rent was the greatest damned thing you’ve ever seen on a stage, just get the hell away from me if you want to babble on about it, because I will want to kick you and then throw up on you.
Just leave me alone about it already, and everyone will be happier because of it.
On a side note, I don’t hate the stage, or works done for it. In fact I have respect for all those involved in any kinds of creative works, be it writing, art, film or music. These people all make the world a better place… without creativity we might as well all go mad.
Whatever.
