I:scintilla – Optics
I finally had the chance to listen to I:scintilla’s latest album, Optics on Alfa Matrix Records. I had already heard a few tracks from the disc, but getting to hear the whole thing was definitely a treat. While the band’s sound falls into the genre of industrial rock, which is often known for monotonous tracks, I:scintilla breaks out from the rest and gives us amazing dynamics and soundscapes while still offering up a beat you can dance to.
All the tracks on this album are great, but a few really stick out above the rest. The opener, Cursive Eve is a great example of this. This song builds from the beginning into an amazing chorus led by vocalist Brittany Bindrim’s amazing voice. It’s not often a first chorus can define an album, but from that point onward, this album just rocks!
My favorite track however is probably Ultravioletfly. The song is mean sounding with edgy keyboards and guitars. The vocals on this track fit perfectly with the edge of the song featuring a vocoded vocal line delivered with amazing style and energy.
Overall, there’s not a weak song on the entire album. They have a great balance of electronic and organic elements and as far as industrial music goes, I:scintilla has raised the bar for great songs with their sophisticated songwriting and arrangements. This is definitely not an album to go without!
