Bella Morte – Bleed the Grey Sky Black
Bella Morte’s latest release, Bleed the Grey Sky Black on Metropolis records is a killer release for the band, if not their best work to date. It’s definitely heavier than the previous work from the band, sometimes even reminiscent of some of my favorite metal bands of the 80′s. It’s a cool album.
Some tracks really stood out to me on this disc including On The Edge, Ghost Land, As the Storm Unfolds, and Bleed Again. On The Edge is just a flat out great rock song. It’s got a catchy chorus and it’s just well written. I initially heard the song well before the album came out, and simply put, I was excited to see how the rest of the album would compare. I’m pleased to say that I was pleasantly surprised.
The tracks, As the Storm Unfolds, and Bleed Again really shocked me when I first heard them. Both tracks have a great hard rock sound with a hint of 1980s metal influence. What stands out to me on these tracks the most is the guitar and keyboard work by Tony Lechmanski and Micah Consylman. Not only do the two of them do a great job of working together throughout the album, but when it comes down to it, they rock harder than a lot of bands out there with two guitarists!
Ghost Land is easily the heaviest and darkest track on the entire album. It sets a dark mood from the start and is followed by probably the heaviest Bella Morte riff to date. Vocalist Andy Deane really shows us how versitile he can be on this track as well as throughout the album. He goes from edgy in the verses to melodic in the choruses with ease. While this song is the most exagerated example of this, Andy’s talent and flexibility is found throughout the album.
The band also includes a notable cover of the classic, Earth Angel on this disc. It’s a great remake of the original, and definitely worth a listen.
Overall, this is my favorite Bella Morte album to date, and I’ll happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great disc!
